| Step by StepDownloading Exhibits to a deposition or case is similar to
downloading E-Transcripts. First, you will need to log into your account using
the Username and Password that you received in your email notification.
Click Here to access the "Logon Page".
Once logged in,
be aware that there are a number of tabs across the top of the window. In this
instance, and for the purpose of downloading exhibits, the "PROCEEDINGS" tab
should be selected.
Please note that the page is divided into two major
sections, a top half and bottom half.
The top half provides a list of all
the cases that you are assigned to. Select the case you are interesting
in.
The bottom half
displays the list of transcripts and exhibits that are available for the case
that is selected in the top half. Find the deponent that the exhibits are
associated with.
The most important
concept when downloading exhibits is understanding that Exhibits are associated
with a witness or deposition. The link for download is located adjacent to the
deponents E-Transcript.
In the image above, please note that there are
two witnesses. The first witness (Theresa Thomas) does not have any exhibits
associated with her. However the second witness (Deann Bowe) does.
Click
the "Exhibits" link to view the exhibits available for download for this
witness.
To begin the
process of downloading an exhibit, click on the icon in the right hand column.
The icon used for the exhibit is an indication of the type of file the exhibit
is. In the example below, the exhibit is a compressed ZIP file. Zip files can be
opened directly from WinXP. If you do not have WinXP, WinZip can be used to open
.zip files.
A new window will
appear asking you to choose how to save the download. Click the SAVE
button.
Next you will be
asked where you want to save the file. Choose a place that makes sense to you.
If unsure where on your computer you wish to save the file, simply choose to
save it on your 'Desktop.' The location is not terribly important, however,
remembering which location you have chosen is. You may wish to make a new folder
and save all the transcripts you download from MOA in it. This way they are all
in the same place. If you need help organizing your downloaded exhibits simply
call any MOA location and we will be happy to assist you.
Once you have
decided where to save the file, click on the 'SAVE' button.
At this point
the file will begin downloading to your computer. Once this process has
completed, click the OPEN button.
Once the Zip has opened, you
will be able to view your exhibits. MOA names the exhibits by using the Case
Name, and the Exhibit number.
The example below shows exhibits 1-7 in the
SMITH vs. JONES Case. Simply double click the exhibit you wish to view, and your
computer will display it.
A word about .Zip
files: If you have not worked with .zip files in the past, they are
common file type found on the internet. Think of zip files as a file cabinet for
electronic files. It allows you to store/collect many files in just one file. It
also compresses the files stored in them, making zip files ideal for sharing
information over the internet. Instead of downloading 40 individual exhibits,
zip files allow you to instead download one file that contains all 40 exhibits.
Your download also completes sooner since the zip file is smaller in file size
than the original 40 uncompressed exhibits.
WinXP has the built in
ability to open and view .zip files. However, Windows 2000, NT, ME, 98, 95 do
not. If you are using Windows 2000, NT, ME, 98 or 95, you will need a 3rd party
program that can open/view them.
One popular program used to view/open
zip files is called "WinZip." Visit www.winzip.com
for a free download if you don't currently have a zip file viewer installed on
your computer.
